MEDIA ADVISORY for Wednesday, July 27th, 2016Oscar-Winner Dustin Lance Black to Dedicate Philadelphia Conference LGBT Historic MarkerOpenly LGBT Elected Officials Panel with Congressmen, State Attorney General and Florida’s only Out State Rep.PHILADELPHIA, PA – Equality Forum, the nation’s premier lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights summit, will begin today’s events with Academy Award-winning screenwriter of the Harvey Milk biopic MILK and LGBT activist, Dustin Lance Black, keynoting the Philadelphia Conference Historic Marker Dedication. The Philadelphia Conference Historic Marker will designate where 300 activists from around the country met in February 1979, in response to Harvey Milk’s assassination, to organize the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. For the LGBT civil rights movement, the Philadelphia Conference is akin to Seneca Falls. Following the historic marker dedication, openly LGBT state and national elected officials will convene at the National Museum of American Jewish History for a panel discussion on the state and future of the LGBT movement.
