Terrence McNally, a trailblazing American playwright and four-time Tony Award winner, died on March 24, 2020, from complications of the coronavirus. He was 81.
McNally was among the first on Broadway to explore gay themes, AIDS and LGBTQ rights. His best-known works include the plays "Frankie and Johnny” and "Love! Valor! Compassion!” and the books for the musicals “Kiss of the Spider Woman” and “Ragtime."
